Antique Dresser
In medieval times the dresser, then
called dressoir, was first used in the French kitchen as a
kitchen counter and for storage. Later on, around the 17th
century, it found its way to different parts of the house.
Antique dressers can be purchased online, in antique shops or
through auctions.
Below: Antique dressers are often
gorgeous to look at. Craftsmen used woods that were well known
for their color and grain, and then used all kinds of trim,
inlay, paint, stains, carving and styling to create works of
art that were admired in their day and cherished
today.

An antique dresser can have a wide
range of prices, depending of course on the quality, age
and maker. Victorian and Edwardian antiques are very
popular in all kinds of furniture, including dressers. There
are some lovely vanity dressers available with elegantly
crafted woods and mirrors with matching frames.
Some antique dressers have been
preserved very well and should be taken care of to make sure
that they will bring joy and value for many generations to
come. True collectors have an eye for an antique dresser, and
some merely buy it as an investment. To name just a few makers:
Emile Andre with 19th century Art Nouveau, Benjamin
Chandlee sr and jr with 17th and 18th century Colonial
style furniture, John Henry Belter with 20th century Rococo
Revival furniture, Otto Eckman with 19th century
Jugendstill, and John Needles with 19th century Victorian.
These are just a few names, but there are many more famous
makers to be found in the exciting world of
antiques.
