Wood
Cabinets
Wood cabinets can be found in the
kitchen, the bathroom and throughout the house. They can be
crafted in different styles to match the rest of the room and
are often either hung up or attached to the wall like a
medicine cabinet, or built in, for example as part of the
kitchen. A common stand-alone cabinet is the display cabinet.
Usually they have one or two doors at the front, sometimes with
locks also.
Below: Triple dressers are just one of
many kinds of wood cabinets. When you take a simple wood
cabinet and change things like size, number of drawers, height,
design, then you change its function and its name, into things
like a wardrobe, TV stand or entertainment center, side table,
sink cabinet, kitchen cabinet. These all seem like very
different things, but they all originate from a simple idea of
making a cabinet from wood and giving it drawers, shelves, and
doors.

Wood cabinets are commonly crafted
from oak, cherry and mahogany. To suit your personal wishes
they can be simple and modern, made to look old-fashioned with
romantically elegant decorations and perhaps even
antique-looking handles, even a mixture of
styles.
Once you have selected your preference
of wood, you can think about handles, inlays and finishes.
These details can put the essential finishing touch on your
cabinets. A hardware handle looks entirely different from a
wooden one, defining the whole style of your cabinet. Inlays of
other woods and materials make a delicate and elegant attention
to detail. Finishes such as oils, stains, and paints will
vastly transfigure the look of your wood cabinets so you need
to decide exactly how it should look in accordance with the
rest of the decor around it.
